A Tour of 5 Tiny Houses at the St Pete Tiny House Fest

The Tiny House Festival at the St Pete Ecovillage not only featured talks by tiny house builders and tiny house designers, there were tiny house companies and organizations that build tiny houses for the homeless. And then there were the tiny houses themselves–nine tiny houses on wheels that were open for tours. I featured a few of them in the previous video, and I cover five more in this one. These are brief tiny house tours that just give you a taste of what the houses look like and maybe some inspiration for your own tiny house design.

Tiny House Fest Attracts Thousands to St Pete Ecovillage Pt 1

Tiny houses are a big thing in Florida. The St Pete Ecovillage put itself on the map in a lot of ways by hosting their first tiny house festival on April 1st this year. It was a great demonstration of living lighter on the planet and was part of a larger effort to make tiny living more viable in St Petersburg. I was at the festival, since that’s where I was living, and have made a couple videos about my experience.

So Many Useful Tropical Permaculture Plants at the ECHO Nursery

Continuing the tour of ECHO Farm, this is a little walk around the nursery, where you can buy almost any kind of useful plant for a reasonable price. Cinnamon, Mango, Sapote, Red Mombin, Katuk. It’s too bad I don’t have land in Florida to plant anything on. But I was definitely like a kid in a candy store at this place.

Incredible Food Forest at St Pete Ecovillage

I already did a tour of the garden at the ecovillage here in St Petersburg, FL, but I left out the food forest, which takes up a section of the garden space and features a collection of tropical fruit trees. Examples of food production like this illustrate how easy it can be to grow your own fruit, but they also make me realize how disconnected people are from their food that they choose to buy fruit from a store that’s been shipped across the world instead of growing their own. These things seem to grow themselves with little effort, and the reward is a bounty of fresh fruit that tastes like nothing you could find at the store.

Florida’s Newest (and only) Ecovillage: St Pete Ecovillage

This is a tour of the newly formed St Pete Ecovillage. The people here have been putting a lot of sweat into fixing up the space they are turning into an ecovillage. This is a little walking tour around the property to see what they’ve got going on and what improvements they’ve already made. It’s a work in progress and expect more sustainable systems to be implemented as they get their houses livable and have time and resources to devote to other projects.
